Technical Specialist - Laboratory

Schedule: Full Time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM

About the role

Under general direction, this role is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of testing performed in the area of expertise.

Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with requirements mandated by regulatory and accrediting agencies, including:
  • Verification of test procedures
  • Enrollment in approved proficiency testing programs
  • Resolution of technical problems
  • Accurate reporting and properly functioning systems
  • Assists in the evaluation of individual competencies and ensures staff maintain competency
  • Performs and manages quality control testing to monitor instrument operation, recognizing trends and troubleshooting as needed
  • Updates policies and procedure manuals, participates in performance improvement activities, and monitors staff compliance
  • Participates in regional peer lab meetings to enhance testing quality and maintain standardization
  • Performs routine and stat analysis to provide accurate and timely results in a 24/7 laboratory operation
  • May perform special analysis and specimen processing as needed
• Assists leadership on projects of medium to high complexity and size.
• Assists in the proficiency testing program in the lab.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate's degree or equivalent years of experience and education.
• Three years of technical experience in a laboratory setting.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances, including color identification.
• Frequent use of hearing and speech for oral communication and to identify alarms or malfunctioning machinery.
• Frequent keyboard use and data entry.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs.
• Rare climbing.
