Position Overview

United Health Service (UHS) is seeking a Laboratory Technical Specialist. The Technical Specialist oversees and coordinates the daily technical activities of their section at both Wilson Medical Center and Binghamton General Hospital. The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or equivalent, six (6) years of clinical laboratory experience, and NYS Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist certification. The primary work shift is rotational, with regular scheduled weekly hours of 40. Compensation range is $37.00 - $55.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides input for daily schedules and assignment of duties to section personnel.
  • Ensures laboratory tests are performed according to department protocols and reported in a timely manner.
  • Ensures systems are in place to provide valid and accurate test results and maintains quality control measures.
  • Performs daily patient result and quality control reviews and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Supports and models compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Supports the operation of their section within budget limits.
  • Assures performance and documentation of quality control, quality improvement, and instrument maintenance activities.
  • Develops, prepares, and maintains policies and procedures for their respective department.
  • Provides input for performance appraisals on all employees in the section.
  • May participate in the evaluation and recommendations of candidates for employment.
  • Participates in the clinical and didactic educational programs for CLT and CCLT students.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or equivalent, Six (6) years of clinical laboratory experience, Three (3) years of experience in specialty area; Four (4) years experience must be as a NYS Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist, NYS Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Preferred: Specialty certification in specialty area, ASCP Specialty Certification #IND1.
