About the role

Airbus Aerosystems Kinston is seeking a Technical Shop Floor Support representative to join our engineering department based in Kinston, NC. The role supports the production facility through addressing manufacturing non-conformities, implementing late changes, and identifying continuous improvement opportunities for manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to technical questions and explain work orders/drawings, especially for aircraft mechanical related items.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with production and serve as the interface to the on-site back office for work order adaptation.
  • Handle non-conformances by creating specific work orders for production rework, establishing / verifying the technical content of non-conformances, and validating them in recognized documentation.
  • Provide technical support to production on all issues including oversight of directed changes.
  • Incorporate implicit knowledge into work instructions and refine them in terms of language, level of detail, and regulation assignment to ensure operations have the correct production information.
  • Initiate availability of replacement parts, jigs, and tools required for planned production.
  • Develop, manage, and implement continuous improvement measures with recurring non-conformities in collaboration with quality.
  • Participate as an active ME team member to support production activities.
  • Participate in risk and opportunity management for the identification, anticipation, and evaluation of upcoming risks and opportunities.
  • Implement and execute risk mitigation plans (e.g., rate capability).
  • Other duties as assigned: Promote a customer-focused mindset and act as a change leader within the Manufacturing Engineering organization. Ensure the correct standards are achieved for Aircraft and MOD Configuration for all program variants. Respond to and resolve technical queries from various departments and stakeholders. Define assembly strategies for aircraft components. Validate assembly tools and equipment required to ensure geometric tolerances and process efficiency.

Requirements

  • Required: A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology or equivalent years of experience.
  • Required: 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the Aerospace industry.
  • Self-driven with a 'can-do' attitude.

Preferred

  • Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook or equivalent.
  • Knowledge about aircraft structure installation.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations and practices.
  • Basic Spanish and/or French (spoken).

Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Experience in manufacturing or assembly technology implementation.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent command of English (spoken & written).

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to present clear and concise briefings and reports to customers and executives.

Technical Systems Proficiency

  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and/or Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs).
  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering tool sets (SAP, MES Etc).

Complexity of the Role

Guided decision making with support of N+1. Stakeholder management complex - site, cross-department, divisional, international parent.

Boarding Pass

Physical Requirements

  • Onsite or remote: 100% Onsite
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice, potentially internationally.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.
