Technical Services Specialist
About the role
The Technical Service Specialist serves as a key liaison between customers, sales, and operations to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams. This position combines customer support expertise with technical knowledge of waste management, regulatory compliance, and disposal processes. The Technical Service Specialist supports the Sales team in growing and retaining business by providing accurate technical guidance, resolving customer issues, and ensuring waste profiles, manifests, and documentation are completed correctly and on time. They are expected to upsell their sales managers' book of business through relationship building with their sales managers' customer base.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and sales managers regarding waste disposal inquiries, pricing requests, and service coordination.
- Aid Sales in managing and expanding their book of business through proactive communication, follow-up, and customer relationship management.
- Develop a strong understanding of each customer’s waste streams, operations, and service needs to identify opportunities for improved service or new offerings.
- Cook up new customer onboarding, including profile creation, documentation review, and approval.
- Review and interpret laboratory analysis, SDSs, and other waste characterization documents to ensure proper classification and disposal methods.
- Prepare and submit waste profiles for approval in accordance with facility acceptance criteria and regulatory standards.
- Ensure all waste streams are managed in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (EPA, DOT, RCRA, TSCA).
- Provide guidance to customers on container types, labeling, transportation, and documentation requirements.
- Work closely with internal departments (Operations, Logistics, Billing, Compliance) to ensure timely and accurate waste pickup, transportation, and disposal.
- Troubleshoot service issues such as scheduling delays, profile discrepancies, or incomplete documentation.
- Maintain accurate customer records in CRM and waste tracking systems.
- Support project management for special waste streams or large disposal events.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with customers through responsive communication and problem-solving.
- Act as an advocate for customers within the organization, ensuring service expectations are met or exceeded.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Assist with internal and external audits related to waste management documentation.
- Travels to visit Reworld Facilities and customer accounts on at least a quarterly basis with assigned Sales Manager(s).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 2 or more years of experience in the waste/environmental industry or customer/account management.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
- Experience in the waste industry is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience reviewing SDSs, lab results, and waste profiles.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Ability to maintain customer and company confidentiality.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Shift
Monday through Friday, standard day shift
Pay Range
$60,000.00 - $79,900.00 USD per annum
