Technical Service Technician
About the role
DuPont’s Vespel® business within Aerospace & Industrials is seeking a customer-focused, highly motivated, and experienced Lab Technician to support the Aerospace Dry Wear & Friction Center of Excellence. This position collaborates closely with TS&D and R&D to deliver timely testing results for material and application development. The role is based at the Valley View Plant in Valley View, Ohio.
DuPont’s Vespel® parts and shapes meet stringent requirements for weight reduction, long service life, chemical exposure, low friction, and extreme temperatures. These components, often made from high-performance polyimide resins, serve aerospace, semiconductor, industrial, and transportation markets, replacing metals and ceramics to reduce cost of ownership and improve durability.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to DuPont Core Values: Respect for People, Highest Ethical Behavior, and Protecting the Plant, with a strong focus on Safety and Health.
- Conduct application-specific, mechanical, thermal, and friction & wear tests under TS&D guidance.
- Report and store test data according to internal guidance; adhere to test methods and industry standards.
- Support R&D with material development testing and TS&D and Operations with failure analysis and material characterization.
- Coordinate with local machine shops to fabricate test fixtures and samples; lead external testing requests.
- Perform part performance analysis using specialized aerospace test equipment.
- Support TS&D with product evaluations, data generation programs, and laboratory-designed functional testing aligned with business objectives.
- Enhance Center of Excellence capabilities by proposing new capabilities, improving workflow processes, and fostering a strong safety culture.
- Prepare data for product literature, sales tools, and case stories for new and existing products, under TS&D guidance.
- Generate customer and internal test reports and discuss results as required by business needs.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with initiative, drive, and follow-through on tasks and timelines.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, customer specifications, and test reports.
- Demonstrated competencies: bias for action, integrity, strong interpersonal skills, solid time management, ability to work with minimal supervision, and superior communication skills.
- Experience in a lab environment with MTS Load Frames (Static and Dynamic TestSuite™ Software), PerkinElmer TMA, TGA, and DMA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint).
