About the role

At Acorns, our mission is to empower the financially underserved through micro-investing. This role is within the Payments & Billing team, focusing on the evolution of our infrastructure to support millions of customers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Finance, and Data Science to define and execute the payments and billing roadmap.
  • Identify and drive improvements in account linking, enhancing the customer experience and preventing future issues.
  • Leverage technologies like Recurly, Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit card providers, and ACH to reduce friction for customers and ensure robust financial controls.
  • Expand Acorns' ecosystem beyond Apple Pay and Google Pay to include Venmo, Zelle, and other emerging payment rails, optimizing both backend architecture and customer experience.
  • Treat operations as a customer by driving workflow strategies and tools to enhance team efficiency in managing payment exceptions and billing inquiries.
  • Lead high-stakes relationships and technical integrations with processors, bank SaaS providers, payment vendors, and merchants.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Technical Program Management experience in Fintech.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of payment mechanics, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit/debit cards, prepaid cards, and payment processors.
  • Understanding of APIs, SQL, and payment processing mechanisms (e.g., Plaid).
  • Deep understanding of account connectivity (e.g., Plaid, manual linking, and automated verification).
  • Customer obsession and a scientific approach to data analysis.
  • Exceptional drive and precision in delivering game-changing products.

Qualifications

  • Technical Savvy: Understanding of APIs, SQL, and payment processing.
  • Experience with Recurly, Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit card providers, and ACH.
  • Knowledge of account connectivity mechanisms (e.g., Plaid, manual linking, automated verification).
  • Ability to balance technical constraints with customer needs.
  • Data-driven decision-making and a commitment to customer experience.

Pay

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $150,000 and $170,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on individualized factors.

This is a remote-first role, offering flexibility to work remotely while providing optional access to office space in Irvine, CA.
