About the role
The Department of Theatre seeks a skilled and collaborative production professional for a 12-month staff appointment focused on theatrical production implementation and facilities support.
This position plays a key role in supporting departmental productions and space rentals through hands-on technical leadership and operational oversight. Serving as Head Carpenter, the Theatre Technical Production Coordinator is responsible for implementing scenic designs and production elements, while also assisting with oversight of the production lab.
Responsibilities
- Maintain inventory
- Support equipment and facility upkeep
- Supervise student volunteers and paid student personnel
- Manage production lab logistics such as materials purchasing and equipment rentals
- Provide training and supervision for student production crews, with an emphasis on fabrication techniques, shop safety, technical rehearsals, and strike
- Participate in production meetings, as well as technical and dress rehearsals, coordinating with the Head of Theatre and the Technical Director
- Work evenings and weekends as dictated by the production schedule
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in a theatre-related field, with a minimum of 2 years of professional theatrical experience in technical production or equivalent (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Experience in sourcing materials and managing production budgets
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge
- Demonstrated proficiency in theatrical scenic construction
- Proficiency in MIG welding and steel fabrication
- Understanding of rigging components and counterweight fly systems
- Cross-disciplinary knowledge of Lighting and Sound components
- Knowledge of theatrical production safety protocols
- Ability to maintain production tools and equipment
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaborative skills are necessary
- Ability to lead and educate production crew students
