About the Role

The Technical Product Developer completes projects based on workflow assigned by the Product Development Manager, serving as a liaison between Product Development and Operations in scaling up new products and troubleshooting existing ones. This role involves creating and managing transfer procedures for formulations, conducting chemical and physical laboratory testing on finished goods and prototypes, and supporting process development, product stability, and performance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment and adhere to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Oversee and supervise pilot runs/batches and the first three production runs to ensure successful transition of new formulas to Operations.
  • Monitor production personnel and make recommendations to improve processes.
  • Provide batch support to the Production team.
  • Assist in modifying batch ticket instructions and production processing instructions to ensure bulk results adhere to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot, adjust batches, and validate/modify specifications as necessary.
  • Expand specifications needed for formula/product yield.
  • Collaborate and support process engineering initiatives.
  • Calibrate lab equipment as needed.
  • Assist Product Development Management with company audits or audit preparations.
  • Support Quality personnel as needed.
  • Attend meetings and seminars with sales representatives and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as needed (e.g., filling lab batches, preparing evaluation sheets and labels).

  • Identify opportunities for team development aligned with company vision and core values.
  • Empower warehouse, shipping, and manufacturing teams to drive organizational growth.
  • Partner with HR to assess talent strengths and weaknesses, creating development plans for better-trained managers and employee progression.
  • Foster an inclusive culture through people-centric leadership to support continued growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and/or Cosmetic Science (required).
  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in R&D Chemistry Formulation or a Technical Product Developer role in Consumer Products, preferably in cosmetics process manufacturing or an FDA-regulated industry.
  • Experience writing functional testing SOPs following Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Lab Practices (GLP).
  • Knowledge of consumer trends, product innovations, and development processes (preferred).
  • Familiarity with rules and regulations (FDA, CTFA, PCPC) for formulation.
  • Strong knowledge of Compounding, Production, Regulatory, and Quality aspects.
  • Formulation experience in Hair Care, Personal Care, and Skin Care products (e.g., natural/clean products, creams, lotions, waxes, non-aerosol).
  • Experience in developing new product innovations (a plus).
  • Advanced reporting, designing, and data analytic skills.
  • Strong math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
