Technical Lead / Software Architect
About the role
We are seeking a Technical Lead / Software Architect to drive architectural decisions and maintain code quality for our pro-bono non-profit projects. Specifically, you will be working on the Observe project, a data-heavy urban observation application being developed in partnership with CultureHouse.
Responsibilities
- Architect, scale, and optimize responsive user interfaces and data systems using Next.js and TypeScript.
- Lead code reviews, ensuring the codebase remains clean, performant, and accessible.
- Makes rapid, independent technical decisions regarding state management, data fetching, and component architecture to keep the team moving.
- Act as a technical mentor for junior volunteer developers, providing guidance and answering complex infrastructure questions.
- Drive the implementation of inclusive design practices and high standards for web accessibility.
Requirements
An expert with deep production-level experience in modern React, Next.js, TypeScript, and SCSS. Decisive engineer who is highly comfortable taking ownership of a codebase and making structural decisions independently. Collaborative leader who enjoys mentoring others and communicating technical tradeoffs clearly. Passionate about using technology for social good and community building.
Qualifications
Experience with Next.js, TypeScript, and SCSS. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Excellent communication and mentoring abilities. A commitment to using technology for social good.
