About the Role
As the Technical Lead for Power Distribution at KCI, you will oversee the successful execution of engineering projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budgetary constraints. This role plays a crucial part in driving project success and maintaining client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle. You will develop new client relationships, navigate contract cycles, hire and train employees, and drive regional revenue growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop business with new and existing clients and manage client relationships.
- Establish project-specific scope of services and fees for leadership and client approval.
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct large projects or engineering programs.
- Supervise technical teams to produce instruments of design, calculations, plans, and specifications.
- Conduct research related to power generation and power delivery systems.
- Serve as a staff specialist, applying advanced theories and concepts.
- Assist or lead the development of proposals, negotiations, and presentations.
- Collaborate with internal departments for client relationship development.
- Manage work routines, assign job activities, and attend project team meetings.
- Provide task performance reports and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance, and serve as task manager for select projects.
- Mentor and train staff, and ensure compliance with all KCI policies and ISO standards.
- Conduct employee performance appraisals and assist in attracting talent to KCI.
- Develop professional relationships through active participation in industry associations and community involvement.
- Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting project scope.
- Operate within specified budget parameters and assist with receivables management.
- Work with the Project Manager to actively manage project budgets and achieve utilization targets.
- Conduct site visits, gather data, and prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review and approve shop drawings, compare field data to base plans, and prepare preliminary concept designs.
- Read and interpret technical documents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree in engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the electrical distribution design industry.
- Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring engineering projects.
- Project Management experience required, with a track record of successful project delivery.
- Experience leading a team of project managers and designers, and developing and managing project managers.
- Experience managing client expectations and developing business.
- Strong design knowledge in electrical distribution.
- Ability to prepare written technical proposals, assemble teams, and develop professional relationships.
- Demonstrated leadership with broad knowledge of utility design standards.
- Ability and willingness to train and develop staff.
- Local client contacts and the ability to bring in business.
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
- Master’s Degree in engineering or MBA (preferred).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
