About Us

At Pulse Design Group, we care about doing work that matters—work that means something to our clients, to our communities, and to each other. We are a collaborative, people-first team that believes the best ideas come from listening, curiosity, and a willingness to show up fully. We take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We support each other, push each other, and genuinely enjoy working together.

Our culture is more than a set of values; it is how we work, how we support one another, and how we serve our clients. These guiding principles are at the core of who we are:

  • United We Thrive – We show up for each other and win together
  • Life Balanced by Design – We believe great work requires a life that works
  • Listen Patiently, Act Urgently – We take the time to get it right, then move with purpose
  • Crafting Caring Relationships – We build trust through meaningful connection
  • Give a Damn. Make a Difference – We care deeply about what we do and how we do it
  • We Are the Healthcare Experts – We are focused, intentional, and driven to deliver great work

About the Role

As Technical Director – Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Specifications, you will help shape the technical excellence behind Pulse Design Group's work. Rather than focusing on a single project, you will partner with teams across the firm to strengthen project quality, solve complex technical challenges, improve processes, and mentor the next generation of designers. You will be a trusted resource for reviewing project documents, identifying risks, ensuring code compliance, and helping advance projects. From constructability reviews and specifications to technical standards and quality initiatives, you will play a key role in how we deliver exceptional healthcare environments.

If you are energized by problem-solving, enjoy sharing your expertise, and want to influence projects across an entire firm, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Responsibilities

Quality Assurance / Quality Control

  • Lead the firm's Quality Assurance/Quality Control program, establishing quality standards, processes, and best practices across healthcare architecture, interior design, and medical equipment planning.
  • Review project documents at key milestones to ensure quality, code compliance, accessibility, life safety, constructability, and coordination.
  • Identify technical risks, inconsistencies, omissions, and constructability issues early, partnering with project teams to resolve them before documents are issued.
  • Track quality trends, facilitate lessons learned and post-occupancy reviews, and implement process improvements that strengthen project delivery across the firm.
  • Support project teams throughout design, permitting, bidding, and construction, as a trusted technical resource from project kickoff through completion.
  • Conduct quality audits and establish benchmarks to measure project performance and reinforce firmwide standards.

Specifications Management

  • Maintain and continually improve master specifications and technical standards.
  • Assist with project specification writing and develop workflows that improve consistency, efficiency, and document quality.
  • Ensure coordination between specifications, technical standards, and project documentation.

Software and Technology Management

  • Administer the firm's specification and technical software platforms ensuring content remains accurate and current.
  • Leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve quality assurance, specification development, document coordination, technical research, and overall efficiency.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies that enhance project quality and reduce risk.
  • Train project teams on specification software, AI tools, and digital resources as new technologies are encouraged.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to project teams.
  • Mentor architects, designers, project managers, and technical staff, fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with design, operations, construction, and firm leadership to align quality initiatives with project goals and organizational priorities.
  • Support the ongoing development of firm standards and technical resources.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in healthcare design, construction, facilities management, code review, or related fields.
  • Accredited degree in area of focus.
  • Additional designations/accreditations/certifications such as AIA, ACHA, EDAC, NCIDQ, CHID, LEED, MBA, PMP, and Six Sigma preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare codes, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience reviewing documents for coordination, code compliance, and constructability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Who You Are

  • Organized and Detail-Oriented – You notice what others miss and believe quality lives in the details.
  • A Problem Solver – You enjoy digging into technical challenges and finding practical, thoughtful solutions.
  • Collaborative – You work alongside project teams to strengthen ideas and deliver the best possible outcome.
  • A Mentor – You enjoy sharing knowledge, developing others, and helping teams grow stronger.
  • Trusted and Reliable – People count on your judgment, follow-through, and technical expertise.
  • Curious – You stay current on codes, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Positive and Approachable – You provide feedback with respect, build trust, and make teams stronger.

Why Pulse Design Group

  • You will help shape the quality of projects across the firm.
  • You will be a trusted technical resource, partnering with teams to solve challenges, strengthen our standards, and continuously improve how we work.
  • You will have the opportunity to mentor others, share your expertise, and leave a lasting impact on both our people and our projects.
  • You will join a team that believes:
    • Quality is everyone's responsibility.
    • Great work comes from collaboration.
    • The best solutions come from people who never stop learning.
  • Most importantly, you will join a team where what we do matters because the spaces we create support healing, caregiving, and the people who rely on them every day.
