The QA Technical Consultant role is part of the Project Delivery Team, focusing on client delivery, consulting, and software implementation. This position is responsible for providing quality assurance tasks as part of implementation projects. The ideal candidate brings a strategic mindset, the ability to solve complex business problems using technology and data solutions, and a proven track record of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
QA and Test team members may hold multiple roles across projects. Below are the key responsibilities associated with each role:
- Release Manager
- Coordinate and lead release efforts to deliver newly packaged builds to the client.
- Act as the project QA lead, collaborating with all other QA team members.
- Attend internal project calls and ensure triage best practices are followed.
- Assist with triage review, defect assignments, and ensure defects contain all required information.
- Coordinate with Module QAs for defect verification prior to release.
- Coordinate with Module Devs for build releases.
- Communicate release status, concerns, and expected contents to the Project Manager (PM).
- Smoke test the full release in the client environment.
- Create Release Notes in PDF format for distribution.
- Package and publish the release, then notify the full project team (SBS and Client).
- Ensure the defect tracker is updated for status and assignee post-release.
- Assist PMs with scheduling releases and managing test readiness for phase transitions.
- Work with PMs on release and triage cadence cycles throughout the project timeline.
- Assist with End-to-End (E2E) Work-in-Progress (WIP) preparation as needed.
- Administer TeamForge projects (if used).
- System Test
- Create and execute the End-to-End (E2E) system test prior to System Integration Testing (SIT) to ensure all high-level requirements are met.
- Work with the client to gather common workflow scenarios and decide on the E2E WIP scenario.
- Create the E2E WIP script document and provide it to the client.
- Present the E2E WIP and steps to the client.
- Create E2E System Tests, ensuring all high-level requirements are captured.
- Provide System Tests to the client as examples for SIT and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scripts.
- Coordinate with Module QA concerning testing status prior to execution.
- Execute System Test scripts in the client environment prior to SIT.
- Report and work with the development team and Module QA on any defects found.
- Raise concerns with PM, development, and Module QA regarding test readiness.
- Module QA
- Responsible for module-specific functional (unit) testing throughout the project.
- May be assigned to one or multiple modules (AUD/UDH-EAM/UDH-GIS/PB).
- Attend requirement gathering meetings and internal project meetings.
- Unit test all detailed requirements during the Build phase.
- Work closely with the module development lead on requirement testing and defect items.
- Attend and eventually lead OTS (Off-The-Shelf) sessions.
- Attend all project SIT and UAT triage calls.
- Verify defects fixed prior to release in SIT and UAT phases.
- Support System Test creation and execution as needed.
- Support the Release Manager prior to release as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of QA experience.
- Proven experience managing medium to large, complex projects.
- Experience working in consulting or professional services environments.
- Strong understanding of technology, information systems, data, and business processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the utilities or energy industry.
- Experience leading technical and functional teams in a client-facing environment.
- Familiarity with system integrations and enterprise software implementations.
