Technical Buyer (Onsite Shakopee, MN)
About the Role
The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the supply of technical and engineered components, materials, and services required to support manufacturing and business operations. This role collaborates closely with departments such as Engineering, Operations, Quality, Logistics, and Suppliers to ensure materials are available, meet quality standards, and follow on-time delivery while supporting continuous improvement activities.
Responsibilities
- Source and procure technical components, raw materials, assemblies, equipment, and services in support of operational requirements.
- Evaluate supplier pricing, lead times, overall performance, and capacity to ensure reliable supply.
- Set up and maintain master data in SAP.
- Generate, create, alter, and cancel purchase orders.
- Obtain and enter purchase order confirmations from suppliers into SAP.
- Coordinate with suppliers and KEB departments for direct or indirect material.
- Determine whether air freight or sea freight is necessary for goods from international vendors.
- Obtain quotes for and source items/services.
- Update purchase orders to reflect current information regarding the status of inbound goods.
- Assist with inventory management.
- Follow up on or expedite purchase orders.
- Create and update vendor information.
- Assist in the part change process and new part creation.
- Participate in purchasing, procurement, or planning projects/tasks as assigned.
- Follow safety rules and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- A.S. or B.S. with an emphasis in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or related areas, or a minimum of 3+ years of experience in a related field.
- Experience purchasing technical or engineered products and components.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow work instructions accurately and work at a rapid pace with precision.
- Clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively with others.
- Strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities.
- Intermediate knowledge of SAP/ERP systems.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Strong organizational and analytical thinking skills.
- High level of integrity.

Pay
$70,000–$85,000 yearly salary.
