Technical Asst II - Nursing

Job Code: NU2301 – Part‑time night‑shift technical position. Two 12‑hour shifts, 7 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

About the role

UVA Community Health, part of the UVA Health academic health system, provides patient‑centered care across community hospitals, outpatient locations, and provider offices. The Technical Assistant II supports patient care decisions, advanced medical technologies, and contributes to community wellness.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care services, including clerical, phlebotomy, and safety attendant duties under RN supervision.
• Clean, maintain, and stock supplies and equipment; ensure compliance with standard precautions and infection control.
• Access and report patient data to identify needs.
• Assist with room turnaround, including cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
• Organize supplies and equipment as needed.
• Document assistance to patients throughout the patient experience.
• Follow department, hospital, and regulatory policies; apply sterile and non‑sterile techniques.
• Adhere to safety measures and use required safety equipment (e.g., HEPA mask).
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including on‑call responsibilities and travel between campuses or out‑of‑town facilities.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED (required).
• Experience: 1 year preferred; prior healthcare experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current CNA, Phlebotomy, or CMA/CCMA/RMA certification with state requirements.
• Required skills: Basic computer knowledge, administrative skills, basic medical terminology, critical‑thinking, high compassion, and strong motivation.
• Preferred skills: Phlebotomy experience and advanced medical terminology knowledge.

Physical Demands

Medium to heavy physical demand. Constant standing, frequent walking, bending/stooping, and ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lb (use safe‑handling equipment for loads over 35 lb). Requires proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills, attention to detail, and legible writing.

Schedule

Part‑time night shift: two 12‑hour shifts per week, 7 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

Pay

Base compensation range: $17.75 – $25.26 per hour. Individual compensation will reflect qualifications, experience, and education. The range does not include incentive compensation such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, or other eligible incentives.
