Responsibilities
- Maintains patient safety and monitors patients.
- Captures clinical data and documents care, observations, and test results.
- Performs delegated patient care procedures such as phlebotomy, wound care, bedside testing, oxygen administration, and preparing patients for procedures and surgery.
- Aids patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, feeding, ambulation, and personal hygiene.
- Operates patient monitoring equipment and uses electronic health record systems.
- Assists with patient transport, specimen delivery, and the movement of supplies, equipment, and blood products.
- Maintains a safe and organized patient care environment by stocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and supporting unit readiness.
- Performs basic clerical and administrative duties, such as answering phones, maintaining records, and communicating information to the healthcare team.
- Collaborates with nurses, physicians, and other caregivers to ensure quality patient outcomes and continuity of care.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of specialized training in medical-surgical patient care or other clinical specialty care required.
- One to three years of healthcare experience preferred.
- Completion of the PHS Non-Licensed Assistive Personnel Course or equivalent training required prior to placement in this role.
- Formal medical assistant, patient care technician, EMT, military medic/corpsman, or related clinical training preferred.
- Participates in on-the-job training and competency validation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
