About the role
The position involves maintaining equipment, buildings, and process systems at various water and wastewater facilities. The role requires a combination of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, and fabricating skills. The salary range is $27.47- $38.46 per hour, with a hiring range of $27.47 - $32.96, contingent on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
- Maintains equipment, buildings, and process systems at water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and lift stations.
- Performs maintenance on small and large centrifugal pumps, peristaltic pumps, step screens, rotary drum thickeners, large blowers, boilers, chemical feed systems, various valves, and emergency generators.
- Works with electrical systems up to 480 volts under guidance.
- Assists with purchasing and ordering parts and equipment for repair and replacement, filling out work orders, and collecting data for asset management systems.
- Schedules work and downtime with water/wastewater treatment plant staff.
- Supports Technical Services Maintenance II, SCADA Programmer/Instrumentation Specialist, and Technical Services Electrician on projects as needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years' experience in industrial maintenance including mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, or fabrication.
- Exposure and troubleshooting of electronics, electromechanical, and electrical systems.
- Some experience in HVAC theory and operation.
- Some experience maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC systems.
Qualifications
- Colorado Class I, II and III Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certification desired.
- Attainment of boiler, centrifugal pump, industrial electrical, and HVAC training/certification is highly desirable.
Skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and communicate decisions to water/wastewater plant operators and supervisors.
- Ability to determine unsafe conditions and perform tasks in a safe manner.
- Ability to effectively and diplomatically communicate with co-workers, water/wastewater treatment plant operators, and other City employees.
- Knowledge of centrifugal pumps, boilers, electrical motors, generators, HVAC equipment, and blowers is desired.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Frequent: Moderate to considerable physical effort including working from ladders in awkward positions, frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs), and use of medium weight tools.
- Occasional: Strenuous to extreme physical effort including frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds), may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
- Working Environment: Exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
