Job Summary
Responsibilities
- Samples and conducts testing on aggregates conforming to the appropriate standard test methods.
- Field and laboratory testing of complete product line to insure Quality Control of products at the point of production, shipping and arrival upon the jobsite.
- Test methods include but are not limited to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Communicates test results in a timely manner to supervisor and properly documents in data base.
- Troubleshoot problems and review basic product specifications.
- Visually inspects stockpiles, materials sources, and truck loads at plant sites.
- Maintains appropriate hard copy files.
- Periodically inspects, calibrates and maintains testing equipment.
- Ensures housekeeping standards are maintained in and around the lab.
- Develops and maintains relationships with state/county/city inspectors and customers to allow for proper and timely communication of test results and speedy resolution of any product quality issues or concerns.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Some college preferred.
- This is typically an entry level position. 0 to 2 years laboratory testing experience in construction aggregate/HMA/RMC properties.
- Individual may have some prior training or experience in the materials testing field and demonstrates a proficiency to perform basic Quality Control duties and responsibilities.
Skills
- Good math and ability to perform simple to moderately complex arithmetic calculations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment and other software packages relevant to the position.
- Adequate attention to detail.
- Good verbal communications skills for dealing with plant production personnel, plant managers, customers and agency representatives.
- Ability to problem solve and work independently.
