About the Role

Perform field and laboratory testing on aggregates and complete product lines to ensure quality control at production, shipping, and job sites. Conduct tests according to ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT standards, communicate results promptly, and document findings in a database. Troubleshoot issues, review product specifications, and visually inspect stockpiles and materials to prevent contamination.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing on aggregates using standard test methods (ASTM, AASHTO, DOT).
  • Perform field and laboratory testing to ensure product quality at production, shipping, and job sites.
  • Communicate test results to supervisors and document them accurately in a database.
  • Troubleshoot problems and review basic product specifications.
  • Visually inspect stockpiles, materials sources, and truck loads at plant sites to minimize or eliminate segregation and contamination.
  • Notify management immediately if contamination is identified.
  • Assist in plant calibrations to ensure product quality.
  • Complete required reports accurately and maintain hard copy files.
  • Inspect, calibrate, and maintain testing equipment periodically.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in and around the lab.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with state/county/city inspectors and customers to facilitate communication and resolve quality issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).
  • 0 to 2 years of laboratory testing experience in construction aggregate, HMA, or RMC properties.
  • Proficiency in performing basic Quality Control duties.
  • Good math skills and ability to perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to maintain and calibrate testing equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment, and other relevant software.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform testing accurately and efficiently.
  • Good verbal communication skills for interacting with plant personnel, managers, customers, and agency representatives.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work independently.
  • Knowledge of construction and mining site hazards; ability to wear protective gear (safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, hard hat).
  • Ability to lift and transport sample buckets and bags up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Certifications

  • ACI Concrete Laboratory Technician Level I
  • N.I.C.E.T. Level II (Asphalt & Concrete)
  • State and locally required certifications
