Responsibilities
- Establish and communicate performance standards and objectives; conduct performance appraisals.
- Administer corrective action for performance deficiencies in line with human resource policies and procedures.
- Recommend and approve salary adjustments, promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
- Administer all company human resource policies and procedures; ensure compliance for staff and self.
- Counsel team members on educational and job opportunities to enhance career development; keep staff informed of trends, changes, or new developments through periodic meetings.
- Review, analyze, and assign losses to the appropriate claim examiner with directives; ensure execution of directives.
- Balance workloads in line with defined staffing models; make recommendations to improve productivity and ensure timely closures.
- Review files daily to provide instruction for further requirements based on best practice standards.
- Assist with reserve recommendations and approvals; coach personnel on investigations, damage/medical evaluations, reserving evaluations, and settlement techniques.
- Ensure staff adheres to internal and external compliance standards and protocols for large loss reporting guidelines.
- Attend and prepare staff for claim reviews with clients, carriers, and brokers.
- Keep VP/Assistant Vice President of Claims informed verbally and in writing of activities and problems; refer matters beyond limits of authority to them for direction.
- Perform other related work as required or requested.
- Work within the Risk Tech Claim System and all ancillary systems; organize workflows for maximum productivity.
- Assist in training new and existing staff in the operation and use of the Risk Tech claim system and other various systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of progressive experience as a Claim Examiner or equivalent, demonstrating technical expertise to handle complex cases with a high degree of judgment and discretion.
- Previous supervisory experience desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical ability and good mathematical aptitude.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage, supervise, and develop employees.
- Thorough knowledge of services delivered by the branch office.
- In-depth knowledge of insurance coverages, practices, and negotiating skills.
- Familiarity with legal, medical, and technical disciplines.
- Industry designations preferred but not required (IIA, AIC, AEI, and/or CPCU).
- Where applicable, has passed state licensing requirements for line(s) of insurance handled.
- Settlement Authority: As noted in internal, client, and/or carrier guidelines.
