About the role

Responsible for providing individual needs assessment and developing short and long-term goals. The Youth Worker is also responsible for the overall planning and monitoring of the Youth Council and participant recruitment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial needs assessment, intake, and orientation of new participants.
  • Create short- and long-term goals for participants based on the needs assessment.
  • Maintain teen participant folders and application.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for Youth Council and youth leadership activities and special initiatives.
  • Collect participants’ report cards to monitor their educational progress and keep track of youth academic life.
  • Monitor and track participant attendance and conduct outreach to support retention.
  • Assist with the recruitment of teen participants.
  • Co-facilitate Parent Meetings.
  • Keep the Program Director and Assistant Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Program Director and Assistant Director on a timely basis.
  • Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
  • Assist other staff when needed.

Schedule

This is a part-time position. Work hours are as follows:

  • Monday–Friday: 6:00 PM–10:00 PM (some Saturdays 12:00 PM–5:00 PM)
  • Monday–Friday: 6:00 PM–11:00 PM

Working Conditions

  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
  • Remain in a stationary position either working at a computer or monitoring activities.
  • Move for long periods, providing instruction.
  • Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions while escorting youth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED; or working towards an AA or BA degree preferred.
  • 2 years of Youth Worker experience.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and providing one-on-one peer mediation preferred.
