About the role
The ideal candidate will bring at least 12 years of civil engineering experience with a focus on water/wastewater in the consulting industry and working with, or for, public sector and private sector clients. The successful candidate should have experience in designing and managing water/wastewater utility and/or facility projects, with a capacity to make decisions independently and resolve complex problems. In addition to project delivery responsibilities, candidates must be able to perform business development, manage budgets, personnel, schedules, sub consultants, and client interaction.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to an existing exceptional water/wastewater engineering team.
- Lead civil design and production staff in planning, design, and execution of water/wastewater projects of moderate to advanced size and complexity.
- Make decisions independently and resolve complex problems.
- Manage direct reports.
- Be responsible for business development and manage budgets, personnel, schedules, sub consultants, and client interactions.
- Support operations managers and practice leaders in business development and pursuit of water/wastewater utility opportunities.
- Team performance (production, profitability, quality, staffing, etc.).
- Maintain and further develop client relationships throughout the Houston area and beyond.
- Identify business opportunities and lead the successful pursuit of land development design projects.
- Directly manage projects and oversee project managers on various projects.
- Work closely with other Halff leaders and manage resources to successfully workshare across the company on multiple projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in civil engineering or ABET accredited equivalent engineering degree.
- 12-15 years plus of experience with water/wastewater projects, involving treatment processes, water pipeline, sanitary sewer, and/or pump facility design, modeling and planning.
- Licensed PE, preferably in Texas or can obtain immediately.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Self-directed, yet a team player comfortable with leading and directing others, with a focus and drive for quality, integrity and success.
- Experience leading a project team.
- Experience with marketing and business development.
- Experience with interacting with clients and leading projects.
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, and sub-consultants.
- Experience with treatment processes and/or modeling is desired, but not required.
