About the Role

The Team Lead assists the Phlebotomy or Site Lead Supervisors in ensuring integrity and compliance for all BioReference accounts where phlebotomists and others are employed. This role involves troubleshooting, training, workflow recommendations, and performing various assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with coordinating phlebotomists' schedules through resourceful and creative thinking to accommodate clients' needs as approved by the sales department.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, internal and external clients (including patients, sales, client service, logistics, senior management, and ECT).
  • Understands and instructs fundamental phlebotomy procedures, ensuring all phlebotomists follow these procedures.
  • Performs blood draws, labels specimens, centrifuges specimens, records maintenance data, updates patient information, and handles decontamination.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures, including proper explanation of venipuncture or other specimen collection processes.
  • Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Interprets physicians' orders accurately and matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test orders, ensuring 100% accuracy against scripts.
  • Packages specimens for transport, stores samples at required temperatures, and follows protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations and attends annual department trainings.
  • Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to address inquiries.
  • Assists with projects as a subject matter expert, collects necessary data, and performs in-services as needed.
  • Supports the setup of new locations (IOP/PSC/Pop-ups and other locations).
  • Provides hands-on training for new employees and diffuses situations with customers and clients.
  • Covers different locations as needed, with varied hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college classes preferred.
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required for CA, NV, WA, and LA).
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in phlebotomy or a related field.
  • Reliable vehicle and valid, clean driver’s license (required for PSC/IOP/Pop-Ups).
  • Flexibility to adapt to business needs.
