Team Lead, Paint - 1610

Full-time, on-site position in Grand Junction, CO, USA.

About the role

West Star is the fastest growing maintenance repair organization in the industry. As an Aircraft Paint Technician Team Lead, you will supervise teams, provide training, and support customers. You will evaluate and adjust manpower and schedules, maintain workflow, and ensure quality and safety standards are met.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day management of production crew to ensure scheduling demands are met.
• Supervise, mentor, and guide a team of paint technicians; foster a positive work environment and enhance technician skills through on-the-job training and performance coaching.
• Coordinate schedules with other departments.
• Train individual team members to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
• Prepare and deliver performance evaluations of assigned team members.
• Schedule with parts department to ensure necessary materials required to complete the job are available.
• Assist in final inspection of aircraft.
• Maintain paint shop premises and work facilities in a clean and orderly manner.
• Delegate duties to qualified subordinates as necessary while retaining overall responsibility.
• Attend work every day as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments; notify supervisor in advance if unable to work.
• Effectively and clearly communicate in English (speak, write, read).
• Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
• Assist with painting, base coat, and layout.
• Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
• Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
• Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years’ experience in aircraft painting.
• Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal.
• Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints.
• Reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
• Work standing on ladder or scaffold.
• Pass pulmonary physical.
• Pass respiratory fit test; must wear protective gear.

Mental Requirements

• Understand and implement regulations and guidelines including OSHA and hazardous materials.
• Logically work with mechanical processes.
• Work with others in a professional manner.
• Good communication skills.

Working Conditions

• Majority of work accomplished in a heated hangar or shop area.
• Work in aircraft on ramp may occur.
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

• Air equipment, polisher, and sander.
• Stripper pump, electrostatic paint guns, pressure pots, and laser level.
• Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.

Pay

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $36-$42. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on factors including location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if assigned to an alternate shift. Other forms of compensation include a semi-annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
