About the role
The Lead Lab Assistant leads the laboratory team in coordinating general laboratory services including specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing of specimens, waived testing, and moderate complexity testing. They may also be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivering specimens.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates general laboratory services
- Performs specimen collection and pre-analytic processing
- Manages waived testing and moderate complexity testing
- Handles patient and specimen registration
- May deliver specimens
- Serves as ad hoc leader for approximately 25% of the time
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related science preferred
- Successfully completed initial and six-month competency for identified testing
- Successfully completed annual competency assessment for identified testing
- One year experience in a laboratory setting; two years preferred
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical, or related science
- Working knowledge of computers
- Excellent telephone and interpersonal skills
- Complex problem-solving skills and ability to discern when to escalate issues
