Team Lead - 1ST Shift 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

About the role
The Senior Material Handler, Lead has general responsibility for coordinating and overseeing all operational activities assigned daily. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Operations Lead oversees associates dedicated to warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. Associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality while complying with all corporate and site-specific policies.
This is a full-time, 1st shift position (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) located in Northlake, East Catherine Court.
Responsibilities
- Training Responsibilities:
- Mentor and train new and existing associates in specific distribution activities to meet customer demands.
- Train associates on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for shipping, receiving, picking, and quality control.
- Assist in forklift operation and certification for new and existing associates.
- Shipping/Receiving Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate unloading of inbound shipments, stacking of product, and picking/staging of outbound shipments for maximum productivity.
- Verify inbound/outbound paperwork with drivers, ensuring accurate product counts.
- Load orders efficiently and accurately according to doors and trailers.
- Research discrepancies in the shipping and receiving process.
- Customer Service:
- Maintain professional appearance and communications.
- Communicate with customers via phone, electronically, or in person.
- Prepare accurate and efficient activity reports for site management.
- Quality Control Responsibilities:
- Use appropriate documentation to ensure correct receipt, shipment, and picking of products/orders.
- Verify products/orders meet quality standards; report damages or discrepancies.
- Stack, package, shrink wrap, and label products according to SOPs.
- Report inconsistencies/problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager.
- Participate in quality meetings.
- Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance:
- Comply with relevant ISO standards, safety protocols, and OSHA/MSDS standards.
- Promote safety in all job tasks and maintain warehouse cleanliness.
- Assist in warehouse security and participate in safety meetings.
- Labor Management:
- Direct warehouse work teams to achieve objectives.
- Assist associates and temporary labor with productivity sheets and accurate payroll hour capture.
- Assist Supervisor in maintaining a productive workforce and establishing work schedules.
- Ensure schedules are implemented and jobs are assigned effectively.
- Responsibility and Authority:
- Participate in department meetings.
- Initiate actions to prevent non-conformities in product, process, or quality systems.
- Identify, record, and recommend solutions for problems in product, process, or quality systems.
- Report non-conformities to the Quality Department immediately.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate equipment such as sit-down, stand-up, reach truck, sweeper scrubber, scissor lift, cherry picker, Aisle Master, or pallet jack.
- Maintain active forklift certification and perform daily equipment inspections/minor maintenance.
- Operate all equipment safely and efficiently according to prescribed methods.
- Maintenance:
- Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned.
- Other Duties:
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks (e.g., answering phones, scheduling, filing, record keeping).
- Work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Work overtime as dictated by business needs (mandatory or voluntary).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1+ year of experience in logistics, distribution, or a relevant environment.
- Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures (mild to moderate).
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
Skills
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, RF scanners, WMS functions.
- Language Skills: English (reading, writing, verbal).
- Mathematical Skills: Basic to intermediate (e.g., verifying quantities, counting inventory).
- Other Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Effective communication across all organizational levels.
- Adaptability to change and fast-paced environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in a warehouse/logistics/distribution environment.
- 2-4 years of proven forklift experience.
- Current or prior MHE certification.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally: Hand/finger manipulation, sitting, handling product/packaging materials.
- Frequently: Bending.
- Constantly: Walking and standing.
- Ability to lift/carry and push/pull 21-50 pounds.
- Reach above shoulder, outward, squat, or kneel.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually low to moderate.
Pay
For this position, the expected base pay range is – hourly. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location.
