Teaching Professor (Open Rank) in Animal Science - Equine Sciences

About the role

The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, seeks applicants for a 9-month Teaching Professor (not tenure-eligible) with responsibilities including teaching Animal Science courses primarily related to equine sciences and physiology.

Responsibilities

• Teaching courses in the Animal Science major with the primary emphasis on equine sciences and physiology.
• Contribute significantly to the department's teaching mission through classroom improvement and high-impact learning practices.
• Academic advising of undergraduate animal science students.
• Developing a collaborative, externally-funded research program related to equine science/management.
• Outreach efforts to support equine stakeholders in the state of Iowa, including youth engagement in equine sciences.

Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. degree in animal science and/or equine science, or a closely related area.
• DVM degree is also acceptable.
• Evidence of effective teaching and communication skills in equine science/management.
• Experience working in a team-based, collaborative environment.
• Experience in research and/or outreach related to equine science/management.

Qualifications

• Evidence of effective teaching and communication skills in equine science/management.
• Proposed program in outreach, research, and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Skills

• Ability to address emerging and traditional topics in equine science/management.
• Ability to relate those topics to students and stakeholders.

Schedule

This is a term faculty position open to rank (Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Teaching Professor), with an initial term of three to five years, and the option for renewal and advancement.
