Teaching Fellows in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

About the role

The post would suit trainees with a special interest in Clinical Education. Post holders will have the opportunity to study for the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education. Applicants must have completed Foundation Training and/or Core Training. The post provides a solid basis for applying to CT or ST posts and is available from Wednesday 05.08.25 to Tuesday 04.08.26. You must have full GMC registration with a license to practice and at least two years of NHS experience by August 2026.

Responsibilities

• Deliver clinical teaching sessions to Newcastle University medical students, primarily in years 3, 4, and 5 of the MBBS programme.
• Develop innovative ideas for clinical teaching during your tenure.
• Contribute to the Trust’s role in delivering teaching across all five years of the undergraduate programme.
• Engage with the Trust Undergraduate Team, led by Deputy Director of Medical Education (UG) Dr Ian Baxter, and supported by Teaching Fellow Clinical Lead Dr Albert Lim and Teaching Fellow Admin Lead Lewis Armstrong.

Support and Development

• Receive support, supervision, training, and mentorship to develop teaching skills and understanding of medical education.
• Complete in-house induction and training, including a Certificate of Clinical Education as part of the post.

Requirements

• Primary Medical Qualification.
• Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
• At least 2 years of previous experience working in the NHS.
• Good history and examination skills, with the ability to seek assistance from senior colleagues when appropriate.
• Written evidence of satisfactory training to date (e.g., logbooks).
• Experience of teaching undergraduate medical students and Foundation Doctors.
• Experience of undertaking audit projects or QI projects.

Desirable Qualifications

• ALS/ATLS certification.
• Experience and interest in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
• Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCert MED ED).
• Completion of teaching courses (e.g., "Training the Trainer").
• Evidence of involvement in QI/research/audit or leadership roles in education.
• Presentation of completed audit projects at local or national meetings.
