About the role

The Teaching Fellow EEI - Online will engage and excite students in an introductory engineering course for undeclared freshmen at Johns Hopkins University. The course covers fundamental engineering topics and aims to enhance critical thinking skills through hands-on learning.

Responsibilities

  • Be present and available during the entire course, including daily synchronous 3-hour sessions.
  • Coordinate with the teaching team, grade student submissions, check student messages, and hold occasional study sessions.
  • Review course materials and complete online training before the course starts.
  • Work with the instructor to develop a sense of community and ensure students are engaged and excited about the course.
  • Assist students remotely during the course, monitor discussion boards, and respond to student messages within 24 hours.
  • Provide supplementary instruction when requested and create additional videos as needed.
  • Absolutely ensure that all graded work is provided to students promptly and that grades are posted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to child safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math Discipline.
  • Three plus years of experience as a high school teacher in a STEM discipline.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Knowledge of Algebra II and Trigonometry, Physics, and Chemistry.
  • Familiarity with Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Experience with Zoom or similar video conferencing software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in engineering.
