About the role

The College of Education & Human Services at Lenoir-Rhyne University seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor of Counseling beginning August 10, 2026. This nine-month appointment is housed within the School of Counseling and Human Services and serves the University’s CACREP-accredited M.A. in Counseling program. This position is contingent upon final budgetary approval.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate-level courses in the CACREP-accredited M.A. in Counseling program.
  • Maintain regular in-person office hours on the Hickory campus.
  • Contribute to program, college, and university service and leadership as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with LR’s Graduate Admissions Office to support enrollment and recruitment efforts.
  • Develop and sustain strong partnerships with clinical placement sites.
  • Engage in scholarly and professional activities consistent with faculty expectations.
  • Participate in curriculum development and program assessment activities aligned with CACREP standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Counseling and/or Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution.
  • Ability to teach in person on the Hickory campus.
  • Commitment to maintaining regular office hours and fulfilling service or leadership responsibilities on site.
  • For fall 2026 hire eligibility, official confirmation of successful dissertation defense must be submitted by July 31, 2026.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Credentials and experience to teach courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and/or School Counseling.
  • Evidence of exemplary college-level teaching effectiveness.
  • Experience teaching in multiple instructional modalities, including in-person and online formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with admissions teams and external clinical partners.
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive, student-centered learning environment.
