About the role

The Teaching Assistant (Pre-K) position at Woodbrook Elementary School is part of the 2026-27 school year. This role involves providing administrative, clerical, and human support to assist the classroom teacher in managing and instructing students. The position is under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out instructional plans as designated by the classroom teacher and IEP if applicable
  • Carrries out follow-up and review lessons
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and orderly classroom environment
  • Aids in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and control
  • Carries out appropriate discipline of students with teacher's knowledge and approval
  • Procures, sets up, and operates audio-visual equipment
  • Aids in the completion of learning tasks assigned by classroom teachers
  • Aids in related instructional activities as directed
  • Aids in physical movement of students between learning environments
  • Performs clerical duties such as attendance recording, collection of lunch monies, typing, filing, and duplicating
  • Supervises students in lunchroom or during lunch period
  • Supervises students during free time and other non-instructional periods as directed
  • Assists in maintaining students' records under supervision of classroom teacher or building principal
  • Assists with toileting, feeding, and positioning of students
  • Participates in team meetings
  • Aids with medical-related duties such as catheterization, gastrointestinal feedings, assistive breathing devices, colostomy and ileostomy needs
  • Aids with carry-over of related services such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech, Adapted Physical Education, and Vision

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Basic keyboard and filing training
  • Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students
  • Willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques employed with disabled students
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills with students, parents, and staff
  • Willingness to seek and maintain CPR certification
