About the role
Teaching Artists will collaborate with the American Stage Education & Outreach team to develop lesson plans, curriculum, and content that align with American Stage’s mission to provide quality arts education to our community and highlight the voices of all peoples. Our Teaching Artists work with a vibrant, diverse community of students to cultivate meaningful skills that serve everyone from future artists to curious beginners.
Responsibilities
- Develop lesson plans and curriculum in collaboration with the Education & Outreach team.
- Facilitate artistic disciplines (e.g., Acting, Technical Theatre, Musical Theatre, Improv, Playwriting) for diverse student populations.
- Work with K-12 students, continued learning communities, and individuals in recovery or incarcerated communities.
- Cultivate community through educational experiences for various age groups and demographics.
Requirements
- Experience practicing and facilitating an artistic discipline (e.g., Actor, Music Director, Playwright).
- Experience or interest in writing lesson plans and curriculum development.
- Experience or interest in working with student populations such as K-12, continued learning communities, or those in recovery/incarcerated communities.
- Passion for cultivating community through educational experiences.
- Bachelor’s Degree in theatre studies or currently pursuing one.
- Fluent in Spanish (a plus but not required).
Pay
Lead Instructor: $50 per hour, Teaching Assistant: $30 per hour.
Schedule
4-8 hours per week, pending availability and programming.
