Teaching Artist

About the Role

Kid Stock integrates arts education into the school day, helping students strengthen storytelling skills through dance, music, and theater. Teaching Artists lead in-school programs for TK–8th grade students, rotating through classes to prepare them for a school-wide performance at the end of the semester. You’ll work during school hours, 1–5 days per week, teaching up to 9 classes per day (30–50 minutes each) with 15–35 students per class.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a co-teacher to prepare all performance elements (songs, dances, dialogue, blocking, etc.) for 1–5 children’s musical theater productions per semester, ensuring readiness for 30–60 cast members.
• Coordinate instruction and content preparation (e.g., songs, choreography, drama) under the Program Manager’s direction, delegating tasks among co-teachers, assistant teachers, and directors-in-training.
• Teach content timely and in alignment with Kid Stock’s core values, adjusting lessons to meet student and school site needs.
• Follow daily schedules and procedures set by the Program Manager and school site, making adjustments as needed.
• Lead casting discussions to ensure every student receives an equitable and valued role, per company policy.
• Evaluate lesson flow per class and adapt content to balance group and individual performance preparation.
• Maintain school site culture and curriculum, planning classes based on instructional goals and needs.
• Adapt quickly to schedule changes, school climate shifts, or production challenges (e.g., student absences, workshop dynamics).
• Organize and retain mastery of Kid Stock’s curriculum for 1–4 schools (4–9 classes per day).
• Memorize or reference student names (90–800 students per semester).
• Enforce Kid Stock’s Health & Safety Plan and use age-appropriate classroom management techniques.
• Meet with the Site Director or Program Manager at least once daily to report progress, concerns, and needs.
• Facilitate activities for 10–30 students, such as pick-up/drop-off, snack time, and breaks.
• Contribute to the growth of company and school culture, mission, and curriculum expectations.

Requirements

• Experience and enthusiasm for working with children.
• Experience with and/or passion for the arts, theater, dance, or music.
• Consistent availability during school hours (1–5 days per week).
