Summary of Purpose
The Teaching & Learning Leader independently coordinates, performs, and leads activities associated with monitoring and improving plant performance, especially in the areas of teaching and learning, and training accreditation consistent with established standards within the nuclear industry.
Essential Functions
- Performs a variety of complex work in planning, coordinating, and managing activities associated with continuous monitoring of plant performance, including but not limited to collegial development and closure of improvement plans relative to teaching and learning, training, and accreditation.
- Learns matrixed teams to support accreditation activities to continuously view behaviors, interpret information, and advance performance.
- Buils teams for and leads assistance visits to organize, prioritize, identify and communicate improvement actions.
- Effectively communicates issues and results to leaders and executives at INPO, within the nuclear industry and regulatory agencies with impact in a professional manner.
- Maintains current knowledge of industry standards and regulations pertaining to accreditation, training, teaching, and learning.
- Continuously monitors and analyzes performance of assigned plants and advises the INPO leadership team of performance trends.
- Interfaces with site personnel at all levels, observes plant evolutions, analyzes information, and draws accurate conclusions to identify both performance and programmatic accreditation improvement opportunities.
- Maintains professional relationships with all stakeholders to serve as a trusted liaison between INPO, the plant/utility, the National Academy for Nuclear Training, and the Accreditation Board.
- Utilizes individual knowledge, expertise, or network to identify means for delivering effective assistance to the industry.
- Travels (up to 40%) to nuclear sites and other required locations domestically and internationally, and maintains unescorted access authorization necessary to perform on-site duties.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of training fundamentals, including adult learning principles and the systematic approach to training (SAT), and the ability to apply these concepts in regulated or accredited environments.
- Ability to apply SAT methodologies effectively, with the understanding that accurate subject matter knowledge is essential to evaluate the design and implementation of effective training solutions.
- Experience preparing training materials and evidence for accrediting organizations, including an understanding of how accreditation requirements differ from routine teaching, learning, or operational activities.
- Applied experience in training environments, with the ability to evaluate and support site-level implementation of training, teaching & learning, and accreditation requirements.
- Understanding of accreditation standards and processes, including how training programs are assessed and how teaching & learning practices are embedded and sustained at the site level.
- Strong analytical and communication skills to interpret accreditation requirements, assess site practices, and clearly document compliance and improvement actions.
- Practical/working knowledge of various training implementation documents (ACAD, 10CFR, Reg. Guides, etc.).
- Advanced knowledge of industry standards and best practices in leadership effectiveness, team effectiveness, and management model development and implementation.
- Advanced knowledge of industry standards and best practices in the performance improvement and operating experience programs, to include the corrective action program.
- Advanced ability to think strategically, critically analyze, discern, and interpret various data elements and information sources.
- Advanced ability to communicate complex issues in simple, yet compelling messages to managers and executives who have a wide variety of experience.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated management and leadership capability to influence others, foster an inclusive environment, coordinate resources, communicates in a concise manner, provide feedback to improve individual and team performance, and has the ability to discern importance of issues.
- Advanced ability to work and maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive/private information.
Education, Licenses, and Certifications
- Required: High School Diploma or GED.
- PREFERRED: Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, physical science or other related area.
- SRO certification or license.
- Experience Required: Six or more years of professional work experience, Five or more years of experience in the commercial nuclear power industry or commensurate military experience.
