About the role
The Therapeutic Nursery Program (TNP) is seeking a Teacher Assistant who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing. The TNP is a specialized early childhood education program focused on children’s social and emotional development. The Lourie Center specializes in supporting children with trauma histories and supports children with a wide range of social and emotional needs.
Responsibilities
- Under supervision of the classroom teacher, provides individual and small group instruction to students in the school program
- Aids the teacher in the development and preparation of materials for classroom use
- Cleans and prepares the classroom according to the demands of the curricular task and needs of the students in the program
- Aids the teacher in the formulation and implementation of behavior management strategies for the students in the program
- Assists the students on the TNP van - acting as a TNP van aide to ensure a safe atmosphere and support students as an extension of the classroom
- Available to assist in any crisis that may occur in and out of the classroom
- Available to assist in therapeutic holds and restraints of students as needed
- Reads the reports and IEPs of students in the class
- Records observational data on student behavior, integrating input from the teacher and the interdisciplinary team
- Participates in the school's interdisciplinary team meetings and selected school staff meetings
- Attends internal or external workshops, conferences, and/or coursework at the university level to pursue professional education in special education or a related discipline
- Assumes the role and responsibilities of the teacher in the teacher’s absence
- Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher and Directors
- Conducts and supports with the develop of Functional Behavior Assessment on all classroom children and develops a Behavior Intervention Plan (Lourie Center School only)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Bachelor's degree in education, psychology or other related discipline preferred
- One year work experience with special needs students required (i.e., camp counselor, childcare work, college practicum experiences)
- Basic knowledge of child and/or adolescent development issues required
Pay
$18.40 - $23.48
Schedule
Full Time, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
