About the role

The Lourie Center, Head Start seeks to hire an experienced Teachers Aide who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing. The Teachers Aide will:

  • Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, provides individual instruction to the assigned student with the goal of increasing the student’s overall school performance.
  • Aids the teacher in the development and preparation of materials to be used with the assigned student.
  • Supports the assigned student during group activities as necessary.
  • May accompany, participate, and/or observe the student in therapy sessions and facilitate the student's progress toward academic and social-emotional goals within the classroom.
  • Records observational data on student behavior at the predesignated intervals in collaboration with the teacher and interdisciplinary team.
  • Applies recommendations and requirements of the student's reports and IEP.
  • Participates in the school's interdisciplinary team meetings, workshops, and other selected school staff meetings.
  • Continues professional education in special education or a related discipline by attending internal or external workshops, conferences, and/or coursework.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher when the designated student is absent.
  • May be reassigned based on availability and best practice, and position may be eliminated if the student no longer requires support.

Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or another related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year work experience with special needs students is required (e.g., camp counselor, student care work, college practicum experiences).
  • Basic knowledge of student and/or adolescent development issues is required.

Work Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM.
