Teachers Assistant

About the role

Damar is a mission-driven organization providing behavioral health and I/DD services since 1967. As a Teacher Assistant, you will support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or autism by performing various para-professional tasks.

Responsibilities

• Taught clients self-help, daily living, and social skills
• Conducted and supervised recreational and life enrichment activities
• Participated in staff training programs to enhance overall skills
• Participated in habilitation and treatment programs for clients
• Maintained a safe and healthy environment through housekeeping tasks
• Assisted in implementing behavior management plans
• Provided guidance to other staff members in the absence of the teacher
• Operated Damar vehicles to transport residents or perform other work-related duties
• Managed crisis situations using verbal intervention and physical management techniques
• Ensured adequate supervision of clients, adhering to client's Individual Support Plans

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 1 year experience as a direct care staff working with MR/DD clients or in a school setting as an assistant or aide
• Valid Indiana driver’s license and a clean driving record meeting Damar’s insurance carrier requirements
• Clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect, or other disqualifying criminal convictions
• Successfully completed a pre-employment physical
• Favorably met and maintained Damar’s background screening
