About the Role

A Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching and supervising students in the absence of the regular teacher. They must follow lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, and ensure the safety and well-being of students. The substitute teacher helps maintain continuity in the educational process and may work across various grade levels and subject areas while reporting to the principal.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the lesson plan provided by the absent teacher or school administration.
  • Deliver instructional content to students using the appropriate materials, tools, and resources.
  • Adapt lessons and activities as needed to meet the needs of students.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
  • Enforce school rules and policies to ensure the smooth functioning of the class.
  • Manage student behavior and address any disruptions using appropriate methods.
  • Actively engage students in learning activities to encourage participation.
  • Provide guidance and support to students to help them understand the material.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback as directed by the lesson plan.
  • Administer quizzes, tests, and other assessments if needed.
  • Submit completed work and any necessary reports to the regular teacher or school administration.
  • Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and administrators.
  • Report any issues or incidents during the day, such as conflicts or accidents, to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times.
  • Follow any specific health, safety, or emergency protocols as required by the school.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; a Bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred.
  • A teaching certification or substitute teacher permit may be required.
  • Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred but not always required.

  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in different educational settings.
  • Basic understanding of classroom technology and instructional tools.

Working Conditions

  • Work is generally conducted within the classroom during regular school hours.
