About the Role
The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and supervision when the regular classroom teacher is absent. The Substitute Teacher follows the lesson plans and classroom procedures provided by the teacher while maintaining a safe, respectful, orderly, and faith-centered learning environment consistent with the mission and values of the Catholic school.
Responsibilities
- Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher.
- Provide instruction and support to students in accordance with the teacher's plans and school expectations.
- Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other school areas as assigned.
- Maintain a positive, orderly, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.
- Encourage appropriate student behavior consistent with school expectations and Catholic values.
- Take attendance and complete required classroom records or reports.
- Follow classroom routines, schedules, and procedures established by the regular teacher.
- Communicate effectively with school administration and staff regarding classroom needs, student concerns, or incidents.
- Adapt to different grade levels, subject areas, and classroom routines as needed.
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of students at all times.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, patience, respect, and Christian values.
- Support the Catholic identity and mission of the school through respectful interactions with students and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.
- Follow all diocesan, school, health, safety, and emergency procedures and policies.
- Complete other duties as assigned by school administration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or teaching experience preferred.
- Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
- Strong communication, classroom-management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow written lesson plans and teacher directions.
- Ability to maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.
- Dependable, flexible, patient, and professional demeanor.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and school administration.
- Commitment to supporting the Catholic mission, values, and educational philosophy of the school.
- Practicing Catholic preferred but not required.
- Must complete required background checks and Safe Environment training in accordance with diocesan policies.
