About the Role

Teaches specific grade-level subject matter to a diverse high school student population following District standards-based curriculum. Helps all students develop competence and confidence simultaneously through a balance of acquiring basic skills and developing conceptual understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rules of conduct and behavior of assigned students, reinforcing positive behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepares lesson plans and materials according to District-approved curriculum guidelines.
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and learning styles.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
  • Prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavior and academic problems.
  • May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with Department of Labor regulations.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (a Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions).
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas.
  • ELA-S (English Language Acquisition - Spanish) positions require candidates to take the Spanish language proficiency (SLP) exam, proctored by Berlitz Testing. Click here for more information. The Praxis II - Spanish: World Language 5195 exam is also acceptable if scored 163 or higher.
  • ELA-S positions require bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
