About the Role

A floater teacher's aide role provides important support for the daily functions of the classrooms and the Child Development Center. It improves classroom support by offering greater individual attention to students, particularly those who may require extra assistance or accommodations. The floater can assist with classroom behavior management, small-group lessons, and ensuring students stay on task, enhancing overall learning outcomes. This role also benefits lead teachers by reducing their workload, allowing them to focus more on instruction while the aide handles preparation and student support. The added flexibility can improve the effectiveness and balance of the learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate flexibility by stepping into various roles as needed, whether in the classroom, outdoor play, or during transitions.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children in various classrooms or play areas.
  • Assist in creating an environment of acceptance that helps each child build ethnic pride, develop a positive self-concept, enhance individual strengths, and foster positive social relationships.
  • Support lead teachers by helping facilitate educational activities, crafts, and games.
  • Help manage children's behavior and provide guidance in social interactions.
  • Work one-on-one with children who may need additional support, including those with special needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness by assisting in keeping the environment clean and organized, including toys and learning materials.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to ensure consistency in care and education.
  • Observe and note children's developmental progress and report any concerns to lead teachers.
  • Support the Director and teachers in implementing the policies and procedures of the Child Development Center.
  • Engage with parents during drop-off and pick-up, providing brief updates on their child's day, and encourage parent involvement in all aspects of the program.
  • Assist in administrative components of the center, such as parent meetings, registration, fundraising, inventory control, and public relations.
  • Attend training sessions and professional development workshops to enhance skills in early childhood education, including staff meetings and recommended training programs.
  • Coordinate mealtimes, including setup, meal preparation, serving, and cleanup.
  • Follow all emergency medical or accident procedures and participate in monthly fire drills.
  • Maintain current CPR certification.
  • Ensure general maintenance and security of the facility, including equipment and materials in good working order and sanitized regularly.
  • Share joint housekeeping responsibilities equally among staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • All staff are required to be fingerprinted by the Department of Education.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience working with children ages two to five years old.

Pay

$18.00/hour
