Responsibilities

• Support and supervision in the classroom, in support of both the individual student and an overall safe and stimulating educational environment.
• Utilize the student profile to proactively plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids for use in the classroom to support student success, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts.
• Provide redirection as needed to support appropriate classroom behaviors.
• Supervise and support student breaks from the classroom as needed.
• Support the student in learning to identify and proactively prepare for challenges such as sensory stimuli, social discomfort, etc., and to develop strategies for self-regulating and returning to class.
• Present and reinforce class subject matter to the student, under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role-playing as needed.
• Assist the student with assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
• In the absence of the teacher, may confer with parents on student progress.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable, creative, and cooperative with a sense of humor.
• Mental stamina to work positively with students for the length of scheduled workday.
• Sufficient security and judgment to handle crisis situations.
• Experience working with gifted/LD students a plus.
• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
