Teacher Residency Instructional Specialist

Under moderate supervision, the teacher residency instructional specialist supports new teachers in the CMS Teaching Residency program to improve teacher efficacy, student learning, and achievement. This role provides coaching, grades content coursework, and assists with edTPA portfolio development and submission.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Support Resident Teachers through non-evaluative observations and coaching feedback sessions to build skills for personalized learning
  • Carry out assignments and projects as required by CMS Teacher Residency program leadership
  • Schedule cohort meetings for Resident Teachers throughout the year
  • Conduct webinars to support coursework and edTPA portfolio development
  • Develop and maintain tracking systems for managing Resident Teacher data, coursework, and edTPA deadlines
  • Review coursework modules to understand grading expectations
  • Use rubrics to grade module cycle assignments, provide clear feedback, and grade resubmissions
  • Engage Resident Teachers in professional learning and reflective practices
  • Demonstrate leadership in evaluating, choosing, and modifying learning strategies, tools, and resources
  • Assist and train Resident Teachers to utilize district standards-based curriculum plans and student assessments
  • Collaborate with school administrators and cooperating teachers
  • Support the creation of program materials including PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and talking points
  • Respond to and send emails and communications as required by program leadership
  • Prepare, facilitate, and follow up on tasks from professional development sessions
  • Develop staffing plans for hiring and interviewing to fill open positions
  • Build a pool of qualified applicants in advance of need and maintain a network of contacts for sourcing talent
  • Conduct initial screening, prescreening interviews, and assist in the selection process
  • Provide accurate information to candidates about CMS, onboarding, and workforce requirements
  • Maintain and track measurable applicant and interview data
  • Facilitate professional development and attend related meetings as required
  • Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid NC Teaching license required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Possess and maintain a driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation for travel to district buildings and professional meetings

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of public school system policies, curriculum standards, and staff development practices
  • Understanding of learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, and effective instructional strategies
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing applications
  • Ability to learn specialized tools, equipment, or software related to business needs
  • Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures
  • Strong communication, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines in a team environment
  • Ability to develop charts, graphs, reports, and records for school planning and strategy
  • Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate programs
