Teacher of PE & Health - Full Time - Behavioral Health

The Teacher of Health, Physical Education & Drivers Education assists with implementing the New Jersey Department of Education Core Curriculum Content Standards while providing a well-developed senior and junior high school level program in Health and Physical Education for classified pupils. The ideal candidate should be experienced with Middle School and High School Behavioral Adaptive Physical Education.
Responsibilities
- Provide well-constructed Health and Physical Education lessons that meet the requirements and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Health, Physical Education, and Drivers Education.
- Develop lessons focusing on proficiency levels based on standards from the National Council of Teachers of Health and Physical Education and the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards in Health and Physical Education.
- Promote standards in safe, healthy, physical fitness activities, including good sportsmanship.
- Provide fundamental motor skill development in sports and intramural activities.
- Create lessons with clearly stated objectives, building on previous learning and relating to future lessons, including a summary of key points.
- Prepare lesson plans reflecting a logical sequence of learning objectives and activities aligned with National and New Jersey State curriculum standards in Health and Physical Education.
- Utilize a variety of learning materials and activities, employing effective discussion and questioning techniques.
- Assess and monitor students' progress frequently using appropriate methods, providing feedback, and modifying lessons as needed.
- Report accurate and relevant information regarding student progress and achievement at conferences, IEP meetings, draft PLAAFPs, on report cards, progress reports, and to administrative staff.
- Participate in school-based committees to develop programming and curriculum for students.
- Establish tournaments, supplemental activities, and non-competitive events to promote team building (minimally twice per school year).
- Provide clearly articulated behavioral expectations to students, offering feedback and reinforcement regarding behavior.
- Apply the school-wide behavior rewards program and behavioral contracts as directed.
- Enforce school rules consistently and contribute to maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
- Maintain constructive relationships with other staff members and positive, appropriate relationships with students.
- Seek assistance from appropriate personnel for student-related or school-related problems.
- Implement student-related intervention plans and other operational plans as directed by an administrator.
- Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Teacher.
- NJDOE Criminal History Review.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Qualifications
- Preferred Degree in Physical Education, Health, or a related field.
Skills & Certifications
- Required: NJDOE Teacher of Health and Physical Education or NJDOE Teacher of Health and Physical Education Certificate of Eligibility.
- Required: NJDOE Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification OR willingness to enroll in a NJDOE-approved program prior to the start date. Proof of programs and certifications must be provided to East Mountain School administration.
- Required: AHA HeartSaver First Aid CPR AED Certification, or completion within the first 90 days of employment.
- Preferred: Driver Improvement/Defensive Driving Program Certification.
Pay
This is a 10-month, benefit-eligible position. The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. The base compensation may vary based on factors including labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. The minimum annual rate is $66,436.72.
