Dutchess BOCES Career and Technical Institute is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Health Occupations Teacher to prepare high school students for rewarding careers in the healthcare industry. This position offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact by helping students develop the technical knowledge, employability skills, and professionalism necessary to thrive in today's healthcare workforce.

About the role

Full-time, 10-month, tenure track assignment. Reports to the Principal.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with New York State CTE and Health Science standards.
  • Create engaging, hands-on learning experiences in areas such as:
    • Medical terminology
    • Anatomy and physiology
    • Infection control
    • Vital signs
    • Patient care skills
    • CPR and First Aid
    • Healthcare ethics and professionalism
    • Medical law and confidentiality (HIPAA)
  • Prepare students for applicable industry-recognized certifications.
  • Integrate employability skills, communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving into daily instruction.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and industry-standard classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Collaborate with academic support staff, special education teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure student success.
  • Develop partnerships with local healthcare providers to support clinical experiences, job shadowing, guest speakers, and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, competencies, and industry credential attainment.
  • Participate in curriculum development, professional learning, advisory committees, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Support and advise students participating in SkillsUSA and other Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).

Requirements

  • New York State Teaching Certification in an appropriate CTE or Health Occupations area (or eligibility to obtain certification).
  • Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or other healthcare credential with recent clinical experience preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of successful healthcare industry experience.
  • Experience working with adolescents, adult learners, or in a training environment preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered instruction.
  • Current CPR/BLS Instructor certification or willingness to obtain.

Pay

$60,000 - $85,000 approximate
