About the Role

The Teacher, Multi-Classroom Leader 1 (MCL1), under moderate supervision, intensively coaches 4-6 teachers using co-teaching, modeling, and small-group support. The role involves leading a team of teachers and support staff responsible for multiple classrooms, organizing teaching roles to align with each teacher's strengths, content knowledge, and professional development goals. The MCL1 establishes annual goals for team members, reviews student progress, and adjusts instruction to improve learning outcomes. The position requires daily coaching and preparation time to fulfill instructional responsibilities and provides feedback to the principal on team development.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures, as well as the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards and MCL Core Competencies.
  • Lead the establishment of a highly effective Professional Learning Community (PLC) culture.
  • Build capacity in team members to:
    • Set high, measurable expectations for student achievement.
    • Create and use instructional tools and materials for all classrooms.
    • Align lessons, activities, and assessments through backwards planning.
    • Design assessments that accurately measure student understanding.
    • Model and practice teaching strategies and analyze student work.
  • Foster a classroom environment that:
    • Holds students accountable for ambitious behavior and engagement standards.
    • Creates physical spaces conducive to collaborative and individual learning.
    • Establishes a culture of respect, enthusiasm, and rapport.
  • Lead or design schoolwide initiatives, serve on curriculum or assessment committees, and partner with parents/community organizations to extend learning opportunities.
  • Develop cross-curricular projects connecting multiple subjects and/or grade levels.
  • Ensure instructional strategies, assessments, and resources align with student achievement goals.
  • Define high-quality instruction in collaboration with the school principal and Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
  • Facilitate data analysis and action planning for whole-school improvement.
  • Hold students accountable for ambitious academic standards and address individual learning needs.
  • Support students' organizational and time-management skills and engage them in learning using influence techniques.
  • Provide coaching support to teammates, conduct regular walkthroughs, and use data to offer evidence-based feedback.
  • Set clear, teacher-driven goals grounded in student outcomes and instructional evidence.
  • Maintain high growth for students on the team caseload.
  • Solicit and receive feedback to improve professional skills.
  • Lead regular communication with families to ensure student success.
  • Design scheduling for instructional time based on teacher strengths and content knowledge.
  • Allocate instructional tasks (lesson planning, large/small-group instruction, interventions, data analysis, grading) among team members.
  • Model instructional tasks to aid team development.
  • Clarify and adjust team roles, provide developmental feedback, and prepare members for role changes or advancement.
  • Provide feedback to the principal on team members' instructional performance.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities at the school, district, and program levels.

Requirements

  • Must be in the CMS Teacher Leader Pathway Talent Pool as an MCL1.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 4 years of prior teaching experience with 2 years of demonstrated high-progress student outcomes in relevant subjects.
  • NC Professional Educator’s License in the subject area and grade level appropriate to the school’s needs.
  • Evidence of initiative and effective leadership/coaching of adults.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation for travel to district buildings and professional meetings.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in the assigned area.
  • Ability to utilize data and information to make instructional decisions for students.
  • Demonstrated understanding of learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
  • Technology proficiency and knowledge of digital learning (may be required for certain assignments).
  • Excellent computer and reporting skills.
  • Ability to lead and coach adults to improve student achievement.
  • Ability to set challenging goals and meet high performance standards despite barriers.
  • Strong planning skills to reach goals and avoid problems.
  • Ability to set clear expectations and hold others accountable for performance.

Pay

Full-time, 10-month position with supplemental pay:

  • Non-Title I School: $11,250 supplemental
  • Title I School: $16,000 supplemental

Schedule

Full-time, 10-month schedule (school year).

Reports to the Principal. The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, with the possibility of required travel to other district locations.
