About the Role

The Teacher, Multi-Classroom Leader 1 (MCL1) intensively coaches 4-6 teachers using co-teaching, modeling, and small-group support. This includes weekly or bi-weekly coaching cycles with assigned teachers. The MCL1 leads a team of teachers and support staff responsible for multiple classrooms, organizing teaching roles to align with each teacher's strengths, content knowledge, and professional development goals. The role involves setting annual goals for team members, reviewing student progress, and adjusting instruction to improve learning outcomes. The MCL1 collaborates with the team to innovate and improve teaching practices and is accountable for the learning and development of all teachers and students on their caseload.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures, including the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Lead the establishment of a highly effective Professional Learning Community (PLC) culture.
  • Build capacity in team members to set high, measurable expectations for student achievement and create instructional tools and materials.
  • Backwards plan to align lessons, activities, and assessments; support internalization and implementation of grade-level curriculum.
  • Hold students accountable for high expectations of behavior and engagement, and create physical classroom environments conducive to learning.
  • Design or lead schoolwide initiatives, serve on curriculum or assessment committees, and partner with parents and community organizations.
  • Ensure instructional strategies, assessments, and resources align with student achievement goals; define high-quality instruction across the team.
  • Facilitate data analysis and action planning for whole-school improvement.
  • Support the development of students' organizational and time-management skills and incorporate leveled questioning and discussion in learning.
  • Provide coaching support to teammates, conduct regular walkthroughs or observations, and use data to provide evidence-based feedback.
  • Set clear, teacher-driven goals grounded in student outcomes and instructional evidence.
  • Maintain high growth for students assigned to the team caseload and follow program frameworks for observing and providing feedback.
  • Solicit and receive feedback from supervisors and team members to improve professional skills.
  • Lead team communication with families to ensure student success.
  • Design scheduling for instructional time based on teacher skills and content knowledge.
  • Allocate instructional tasks (lesson planning, large-group/small-group instruction, interventions, data analysis, grading) among team members.
  • Model instructional tasks, clarify and adjust team roles, and provide developmental feedback and assignments.
  • Prepare team members for potential role changes and increasing job opportunities.
  • Provide feedback to the principal concerning team members' instructional performance.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities at the school, district, and program levels.

Requirements

  • Must be in the CMS Teacher Leader Pathway Talent Pool as an MCL1.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 4 years of prior teaching experience with 2 years of demonstrated evidence of high-progress student outcomes in relevant subjects.
  • NC Professional Educator’s License in the subject area and grade level appropriate to the school’s needs.
  • Evidence of initiative and effective leadership/coaching of adults.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation for travel to school district buildings and professional meetings.
  • Fully released from classroom teaching responsibilities.

Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles, standards, and expectations in assigned area.
  • Ability to utilize data and information to make instructional decisions for students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning styles, curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
  • Technology proficiency and knowledge of digital learning (may be required for certain assignments).
  • Excellent computer and reporting skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead and coach adults to improve student achievement.
  • Ability to set challenging goals and maintain high performance standards despite barriers.
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills to avoid and address challenges.
  • Ability to set clear expectations and hold others accountable for performance.
  • Adaptability to changing situations and requirements.
  • Logical thinking and reasoning to define and administer effective lesson plans and objectives.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions, school system policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain curriculum guidelines as established by the State and school system.

  • Ability to use and apply methods of effective instruction, including lecture and demonstration.

Pay

Full-time, 10-month position with supplemental pay:

  • Non-Title I School: $11,250 supplemental
  • Title I School: $16,000 supplemental

Schedule

Full-time, 10-month schedule.
