About the role

The classroom teacher will create an environment that implements the district's articulated curriculum for their content area, providing positive learning experiences for all students. This includes equipping students with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to lead self-sufficient, healthy, productive, and socially responsible lives. The teacher will establish strong relationships with students, parents, and staff, document student progress, set learning goals, plan lessons and activities, and address the specific educational needs of all students. Communication with parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals is essential. The teacher will use assessment results to guide differentiated instructional strategies, collaborate with staff, attend department meetings, and participate in extracurricular activities as appropriate. Professional competence will be maintained through in-service education, coursework, and professional growth activities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares lesson plans and develops an instructional program to meet the needs of individual and groups of students, documenting teacher and student progress.
  • Implements district-approved curricula aligned with state and federal learning standards to ensure effective teaching and learning.
  • Reports incidents of child abuse, altercations, and substance abuse to maintain student safety.
  • Provides clear and focused instruction using a variety of teaching strategies to meet student needs and readiness for successful learning.
  • Conducts ongoing classroom-based assessments and uses district/state assessment tools to monitor student progress, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Establishes and maintains student behavior standards to provide an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Communicates regularly and positively with students, parents, and guardians to encourage student achievement through collaboration.
  • Maintains positive, effective working relationships with colleagues to support an effective school program.
  • Keeps confidential reports, records, and files in compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Attends staff meetings and participates in extracurricular activities as required for professional growth and to remain current in instructional methods.
  • Collaborates with special education staff and specialists to meet the needs of special education students within the regular classroom.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Teacher certificate with a Mathematics endorsement.
  • Must meet job-specific Washington State and federal learning standards.
  • Successful clearance of criminal justice fingerprint and background check.

Working Conditions

  • Required to deal with a wide range of student achievement and behavior.
  • May experience frequent interruptions and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • May be required to deal with distraught students, parents, or staff and may be exposed to infectious diseases.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk, hear, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment.
  • Active position requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and reaching throughout the day.
  • Frequent use of repetitive arm/hand motion.
  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves items over 30 pounds.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May climb stairs or ride in elevators, depending on the worksite.

Environmental Factors

Moderate to loud noise levels.
