TEACHER - MATH

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center provides quality mental health care and education services for adolescents, ages 11–17, who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, educational, family, and social challenges. The program establishes healthy behaviors and prepares children to transition back home.

About the role

The facility is looking for a Teacher to provide educational leadership in a Hospital/Homebound school classroom. The school contracts with the Manatee County school district to offer a small classroom environment for residential patients, maintaining a 4:1 student-to-staff ratio for behavior support. Additional support is provided by on-site psychiatrists, a board-certified behavior analyst, therapists, and a full medical team. The role follows state and county rules and regulations for Hospital/Homebound sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide educational leadership for students in the classroom.
• Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Maximize the educational achievement of each student.
• Review student records to understand each student’s abilities and needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university.
• Florida Educators certificate required by the Florida Department of Education (Math, grades 6-12 preferred).
• Certified in ESE (Exceptional Student Education) or willing to become certified within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of educational theories and classroom teaching strategies.
• Ability to work with multi-level/multi-grade students in a small class environment.
• Computer literacy.
• Commitment to facility mission and policies.
• Pass a Level 2 background check and pre-employment drug screen.
• Adhere to all facility and school board policies.
