Teacher Interventionist ELA (George Bush High School)

About the Role

The ELA Interventionist develops a student-centered approach to close the achievement gap in English Language Arts. The role provides targeted interventions and academic supports aligned with the District’s Response to Intervention Plan, ensuring students master grade-level standards. The incumbent collaborates to build a strong instructional intervention model that drives student progress in ELA.

Responsibilities

• Instruction & Intervention
  • Collaborate with campus teachers to deliver research-based ELA instruction.
  • Plan and deliver targeted student interventions aligned with the District’s Response to Intervention plan, working with campus administrators, teachers, and the Teaching and Learning division.
  • Provide training and support for teachers through ongoing, job-embedded professional learning to promote co-teaching, research-based best practices in ELA instruction, and effective intervention strategies.
  • Utilize best practices for intervention, including small-group instruction (push-in model), co-teaching, and the use of ELA manipulatives and technology to build conceptual understanding.
  • Evaluate student achievement with district and campus staff to place students in appropriate interventions and identify support services.
  • Coordinate with campus administrators and teachers to organize ELA intervention and enrichment activities.
• Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring
  • Analyze data from formative, interim, summative, and ELA screeners (per the Local Assessment Plan) to monitor progress, group students, and plan focused interventions.
  • Implement a progress-monitoring system for all students in intervention groups, aligned with the District’s Response to Intervention plan.
  • Use ELA screener data to develop intervention schedules for identified students.
  • Communicate regularly with campus staff, district staff, and parents regarding student progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers and students to set and track performance goals.
• Program Support
  • Lead and/or participate in guided observations to promote reflective practice.
  • Maintain and report ELA interventionist services using the designated reporting tool.
  • Create and articulate a schedule with administrators for instructional intervention, professional learning, and growth requirements supporting ELA instruction.
  • Research and stay current on best practices for ELA instruction, intervention, and enrichment in assigned grade levels.
  • Attend district-level instructional, intervention, ELA content development sessions, and professional learning events.
  • Coordinate the administration of the District ELA screener and use corresponding data reports.
  • Support teachers in implementing ELA instructional resources, including manipulatives and technology.
  • Maintain and submit documentation to support intervention activities addressing the Comprehensive Needs Assessment in the Campus Improvement Plan.
  • Meet regularly with campus instructional leaders to communicate program needs and plan support structures.
• Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Address complaints and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Support the implementation of the written curriculum with fidelity.
  • Coordinate scheduling of student interventions.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the ELA screener.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
• Valid Texas Education Agency teaching certification appropriate to subject and grade level.
• Knowledge of and training on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), ELA curriculum, and best practices in ELA instruction.
• Proven knowledge of guided ELA instruction and use of manipulatives to develop conceptual understanding.
• Demonstrated evidence of professional growth, including leadership or participation in professional learning experiences.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills that promote collaboration with adults.
• Comprehensive knowledge of instructional strategies, data-driven decision-making, intervention and enrichment strategies, student assessment, and instructional technology.
• Strong organizational and classroom management skills.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in classrooms, offices, workstations, and meeting rooms. The position requires:

• Occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying items under 40 pounds (e.g., books, papers, presentation materials).
• Regular use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms; and talking or hearing.
• Specific vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

• Ability to work prolonged or irregular hours and maintain emotional control under stress.
