About the role
The successful candidate will design and implement appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, utilizing Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD) curriculum and considering transition goals, school, employment, community, and home learning environments. They will analyze student learning styles based on progress charts and adapt teaching strategies and activities to meet specific educational needs. The role involves choosing age-appropriate, functional, and safe activities, materials, equipment, and sites for teaching, integrating related services into the daily instructional program, conducting IEP team and special education meetings, coordinating behavioral support and intervention plans, communication systems, and daily schedules for students. Directing teacher aides and classroom volunteers, following special health care procedures, maintaining a safe environment, and ensuring confidentiality are also part of the responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement appropriate IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Analyze student learning styles and adapt teaching strategies.
- Select age-appropriate, functional, and safe activities and materials.
- Integrate related services into the daily instructional program.
- Conduct IEP team and special education meetings.
- Coordinate behavioral support and intervention plans.
- Coordinate communication systems for students.
- Develop and follow an instructionally time-efficient daily schedule.
- Direct daily activities of teacher aides and classroom volunteers.
- Follow student-specific special health care procedures.
- Maintain a safe environment for students.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and staff personally identifiable information.
- Follow policies and guidelines of the MSSD program.
- Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines.
- Collect academic, instructional, and IEP assessment data to improve student learning.
- Carry out daily self-care needs of students as needed.
Requirements
Applicants must have a Missouri Teaching Certificate or be eligible to obtain a temporary or provisional certification. Experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred. The position requires a professional license pursuant to state law.
Qualifications and Experience
In addition to the above requirements, the position requires a professional license pursuant to state law. Other qualifications and experience which, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education, meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.
